Here is a concept map to just give you an idea of what I was thinking for the direction of this project. I commented on Courtney's post below, so check out my ideas there and then take a look at this link. It is just an idea, but the website (bubbl.us) is really easy to use when making concept maps. It is a read-only version, but just take a look and let me know what you think.
I like the idea of doing community, but what is the project they would have to do after learning this information or researching?
ReplyDeleteOn your last post (below this one) I mention role playing as a final project. I also thought students could make model communities and attach history facts to all the components. I just think a scavenger hunt is a fun idea but not realistic for a real class room. An elementary or even middle school would not have the time or resources to walk all around Kalamazoo.
ReplyDeleteI like your idea Emily.
ReplyDeleteOkay I like that idea, so should they learn about Kalamazoo's community and then choose a place or artifact here to build and as a class build a replica of Kalamazoo community? or are they each doing their own little community? either way I love the idea! Sounds good. Should we just turn that concept map in for the one that is due tomorrow?
ReplyDeleteThanks Sharon. Yeah we should make sure Megan agrees and add a little to the concept map I included in this post. But making a model city to tie community features and local history together would work well for this project.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking the city of Kalamazoo model. So major businesses, schools, churches, neighborhoods, and government entities. Then students would label them and include history (founding dates, historical importance, etc).
Okay sounds good to me, what do we need to add to the concept map?
